Spearheaded by Los Angeles native Ollie "Basie-O" Elder, Jr., originally as the Jazz band "Base Six." and Ollie wanted to expand the repertoire of Base Six, so he put the word out that he was looking for a singer. Base Six's keyboard player, Reginald Varnado came through as he usually does and introduced Sheri Whitten to the band.. Well Sheri was exactly what the band needed; she could handle the diverse repertoire of Jazz, R&B, and Pop. On some occasions the band would perform as a Jazz band and on another as a R&B group, which got confusing for their fans.  So the band decided to present themselves as Base Six when performing Jazz and as The Groove Alliance when performing R&B. |

When Nicole (Nic) and Kirk (Kid) Tracy met, they had no idea that their partnership would soon include leading a band together. Nicole was a busy actor who performed Shakespeare, Neil Simon, various musicals, and played a character on the television series Beverly Hills 90210. Kirk was a working saxophonist who played live with The Shirelles, The Ink Spots, Dave Wakeling (The English Beat and General Public) and recorded the Epic Records debut release of the swing/ska group Save Ferris.
