2000 Lbs of Blues

Click To See Video

2000 Lbs of Blues is an unpredictable musical journey through a collection of soulfully interpreted, heartfelt songs. Twelve of the 13 songs are original works that run the musical gamut from big-time gritty harmonica blues, to guitar-crunching funky rockers, a smooth Latin-Jazzy number, all the way to a heart-pounding rap honoring the city of New Orleans.

Never forgetting their well-loved roots, the band takes you on that journey via a wild, musical tightrope walk led by bandleader Arguello, who, jumps from side to side bouncing you crazily up and down, coming close, but never letting you fall off!

"Fuzzy" was born in "44" and rooted in blues and R&B in the city that inspired W.C. Handy's classic composition, "ST LOUIS BLUES". He grew up with the culture of black music engulfing his young mind and soul. He broke into blues in his mid teens by playing with Albert King, Little Milton, Chuck Berry and Ike Turner, all residing in St. Louis at that time. "Fuzzy" witnessed almost all of the great R&B revues touring and playing for primarily black audiences only;

Ray Charles, Ike Turner & the Kings of Rhythm, James Brown, Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, Little Milton, and so many more. The one thing that they all had in common was their presentation. Each artist usually had a band with a full horn section that would feature the players early in the show, other lead vocalists who would come out to sing a song or two, and female vocalists who would sing background and be featured on lead songs and/or sing with the "star" of the show. There was always a lot of musical entertainment and unbelievable excitement at every R&B revue show.

"If you're going to name yourself Carlos Guitarlos, you'd better make sure you're a damned good guitarist. So good, in fact, that you can play anywhere, out on the streets or in a fancy concert hall, with the uncanny ability to pull from memory just about any blues-rock classic and, on top of that, play it in a style that's uniquely your own.

And then, somehow, you should also be so good that you can write and sing dozens of your own originals, in all manner of genres, from bewitchingly sad ballads and deft Beatles-like pop structures to ragingly dirty blues and Latin soul.

By first appearances THE JACKPOT CLUB would seem like a 'rockabilly' band. Take a twangy guitar and an upright bass and mix in a swingin' drummer, salt to taste, etc. But after listening to TJC take the crowd through a set or two of music , you begin to realize that this is much more than just a 'rockabilly' band!

No other trio would take the crowd (in one set, mind you) from bar-room rock-n-roll of a classic like 'Mercury Blues' or 'Let's Spend The Night Together', to Peggy Lee's 'Fever' to a rocked-up canjun swing 'Jambalaya! Who would dare move from the Las Vegas swing of Sam Butera to Nick Lowe's punky power-pop to Louis Jordan's rhythm and boogie?

2010 is looking like it's going to be a rockin' year with a new Lee Rocker record as well a a surprise record with some longtime friends. The Lee Rocker record is finished and is titled Midnight Radio. This one's a different kind of thing for me in the song choices and the instruments.

All the songs are classic hits from the 1970s. This came about by me thinking back on being a kid growing up in the NYC suburbs, lying in bed at night long after my parents had gone to sleep and listening to this little transistor radio.
